DRACUT -- A team of Dracut and NEMLEC police officers, with the help of two K-9 units, conducted a search in the area of Davis Road and Dexter Avenue Thursday for a missing 49-year-old man who hasn't been seen by family members since Tuesday afternoon, Lt. Michael Fleury said.
Leo Coutu was reported missing to police by a relative at midnight Tuesday.
On Thursday morning, about a dozen Dracut police officers and members of the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council were seen combing the area in a concentrated attempt to locate Coutu.
Coutu was described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with short, graying hair and facial stubble.
"He walks with a noticeable limp due to an injury to his left leg," said Fleury, citing a family member's description. "He was last seen at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday when he was believed to have left his residence on foot."
When last seen he was wearing a navy-blue-and-white-striped polo shirt, blue shorts and multicolored sneakers, a family member reported.
Officers checked in and around the local park, pharmacy and ice-cream stand that Coutu has been known to frequent, Fleury said.
Fleury requested that any member of the public who thinks he or she may have spotted Coutu or may have information about his whereabouts to call the Dracut Police Department at 978-957-2123. Dracut police said they suspended the search at 8 p.m. due to darkness and will restart the search Friday morning.
